A new report from CONCARD Aid Watch shows that Denmark won’t reach the goals within the UN 2015 Millennium Goals and it is a shame and bad news for the poor people in this world. The reason is that some of the development money goes to other areas than pure development like eliminating debts, refugees and more than 1, 2 billion go to climate adaptation.
So on paper it looks good; 0,82 percent of the GDP all in all but in real terms only 0, 71 billion. This is far from the Millennium Goals which is 0.80 percent of the GDP.
The problem is that the Western nations are responsible for more than 95 percent of all the climate changes and should be the sole financier for the climate adaptation and not use the funding for development aid. According to the World Bank we need 220 billion crowns more per year to combat the climate changes so if we don’t stop the present practice we will see a further decline in real development aid.
In PUGAD we fight for increasing the development aid to 1 percent of the GDP and estimate another 1 percent to make the necessary efforts to stop climate changes and implement the adaptation.
We are fully aware of the world wide financial crisis and the recession which lay off millions of workers. Of course it must be given very high priority, but in the developing countries people die of starvation, can’t send their children to schools and can’t afford medicine and to see a doctor for the most common illnesses and food is a scarcity in many places, so we protest against cutting development aid.

It can be done when we have been abolishing our agricultural subsidies and allowing products from the developing countries get full access to our markets.
PUGAD’s first project in the Philippines for small scale fishermen and women group with small scale piggery terminated last January the 31st 2009 after a period of 18 Months. We just received the external audited financial report from the Philippines and also have finalized our own financial statement which we await from our external auditor and after that we write the final report about the entire project.
The report will be published at the web site and it is our wish that other NGO’s can learn from our experiences.
